The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly

We will be discussing what is the good in our lives. What is the bad that I we walk in each day. And finally, we will look at the ugly things in our lives that we need to confess before the Lord. Do not miss out on this teaching for the next three weeks. Tune into KBOE 104.9 FM each Sunday morning from 8:30-9:00.

The Good

Hebrews 13:16New International Version (NIV)

16 And do not forget to do good and to share with others, for with such sacrificesGod is pleased.

There is an iconic movie called, The Good, The Bad, and the Ugly. It is one of the few spaghetti westerns that became a film that lasts time. Obviously Clint Eastwood, Blondie, is ‘The Good’. Lee Van Cleef, ‘The Bad, is the hit man who always sees his job through. And finally, ‘The Ugly’ Eli Wallach, Tuco, is a wanted outlaw.

You might be thinking what does this have to do with any spiritual connection. It actually has moved me to a teaching series that broadcasts every Sunday morning on KBOE 104.9 FM on Sunday mornings.

Here is were I went with it. Is there any good in my life? What areas are bad in my life? What are those hidden ugly places that I need to confess. For today, we will hit on, ‘Is there any good?’.

In Hebrews 13:16, the writer is saying that I can give a spiritual sacrifice of doing good works of sharing. This includes hospitality that is found in Hebrews 13:2, doing ministry to prisoners in verse 2, as well as in verse 3, sharing food with the needy, giving people rides to and from church, and giving money.

Doing good covers a lot of ministries. Good can come from my life. People say that the only good in them is Jesus. And I say, “YES!” But because of Jesus, there comes out of my life the good. Does your life exemplify the good of Christ in it?

Let it be your sacrifice of doing good.

Judges 6:12New International Version (NIV)

12 When the angel of the Lord appeared to Gideon, he said, “The Lord is with you, mighty warrior.”

The Angel of the Lord visited Gideon calling him a ‘Mighty Man of Valor’. On July 4, 1776, Fifty-Six Men of Valor signed our Declaration of Independence. We see no sign of an angel visiting these men, but we do see destiny placed on them for being willing to be used as godly men to raise a nation.

There are three distinct characteristics that raise Men of Valor like Gideon, the 56 signers of the beginning of our country, and us. It takes strength, courage, and passion.

Strength: It comes from the Greek word “Katei”. Paul tells us in Ephesians 6:10, “Be strong in the Lord and his mighty power.” Paul says we can have the unlimited strength of Christ as the source of our strength for those who belong to him.

Courage: Courage is called “good cheer”. In Mark 6:50, when Jesus gave the command to the disciples who saw him walking on water at the Sea of Galilee as he came toward them. It literally means boldness and confidence. Courage is the opposite of fear. When God commands us to fear not, to be of good cheer, he is commanding against fear to be men of courage.

Passion: Passion is the greatest commandment God gives us. In Deuteronomy 6:4-5 is to love God with all our being. In order to have passion, you have to know God. Jesus continually invited his disciples to know him. When they learned to know him, they burned with passion to do his will.

Our world, our country, and our King Jesus needs men today who are called ‘Mighty Men of Valor’. Are you willing to take a living and active part?
