No Regrets

Hebrews 12:2-3New International Version (NIV)

fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith. For the joy set before him he endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God. Consider him who endured such opposition from sinners, so that you will not grow weary and lose heart.

Every man who reads this devotional today could say, ‘If I could only go back, undo, fix, or make it right’. You you agree? Yet, I have learned in life that regrets are a waste of valuable time and energy. There are no do overs in life. What happened, happened.

What if we were challenged with this thought today. What if I committed my life, my one and only, with the time that remains, no matter how old you are to live life God’s way. It would be a way with no regrets. You have done your best no matter of the outcome, right?

I like this thought by Theodore Roosevelt, “It is not the critic who counts, not the person who points out how the strong person stumbles, or where the doer of deeds could have done them better. The credit belongs to the person who is actually in the arena, whose face is marred with dust and sweat and blood; who strives valiantly; who errs, who comes up short again and again because there is no effort without error and shortcoming; but who actually strive to do the deeds; who knows enthusiasm, the great devotions who spends himself in a worthy cause; who at best knows in the end the triumph of high achievement, and who at the worst, if he fails, as least fails while daring greatly, so that person’s place shall never be with those cold and timid souls who neither know victory or defeat.”

The decisions you make today, men, will determine if you live with great regrets tomorrow, or with satisfaction of today. What if we wrote in our Bibles, “No to self. Yes to Jesus every time.” It would surely be said that you lived a life of no regrets.

What Is Your Heart Condition?

Proverbs 4:23New International Version (NIV)

23 Above all else, guard your heart,
for everything you do flows from it.

How is your heart? Is it a hardened heart or a soft heart? The Bible says the heart is deceitful and desperately wicked. I believe that it is because we are so easily influenced by the world around us and our hearts need guarding.

We find in Scripture in the Bible that is teaches us that the real issues of life are spiritual and are really matters of the heart. Maybe this is why we find the word ‘heart’ threaded throughout the Bible so many times.

I find in my own every day life, if I do not guard my heart, it becomes hardened and numb from disappointments in people to the disappointments that come in life.

My thought for us today is how do we keep from having hard hearts? It is through the giving of yourself. It is in giving that we allow our hearts to be vulnerable. A giving heart gives us accountability, and a giving heart means that I am involved in the lives of other people.

The handbook for having a hardened heart or a soft heart is found in the Bible. Reading the Bible keeps the heart softer. How is your heart condition?

No Retreat

1 Peter 2:21New International Version (NIV)

21 To this you were called, because Christ suffered for you, leaving you an example, that you should follow in his steps.

When you choose to step into living a life of no retreat, you are truly following the example of Jesus. Jesus committed no sin. You will find in Scripture no deceit ever being spoken. Even when men hurled insults at him, he never retaliated. When hanging on the cross, he made no threats towards anyone. He entrusted his life to God, the Judge who judges justly. He took our sins, your’s and mine, and died on the cross. He showed us a way that we might die to our sins and live righteously by his wounds so that we could be healed.

What an example of living a life of no retreats. We have a choice and a calling. Once you come to know Jesus and the price he paid. You will choose no retreat. The disciples did not experience this until the cross and his resurrection.

So, how do we live a life of – No Retreats

  • Do not give in – Do not give up
  • Do not retreat or surrender to the temptations that appear to be appealing
  • Do not retreat to a life of spiritual complacency – Be in church and Be active
  • Do not retreat from reading God’s Word daily and spending time in prayer

Men, when we live in retreat, we lose ground to the enemy. He takes over and establishes occupancy. Jesus is calling men who are warriors. Living a life of NO RETREAT fuels your life walk with God, your life as a husband, and your life as a father. Make NO RETREAT a focus in your every day living.

Are You Searching?

Proverbs 8:17New International Version (NIV)

17 I love those who love me,
and those who seek me find me.

Are you searching? As men, we are usually searching for something to bring significance to our lives. We hunger in desperation to find it. We look to power, pride, sex, and so called important relationships in order to find what we are searching for. The only problem is that the deeper we go in the depravity of it, we lose ourselves.

The only true reality of finding significance is our commitment to Christ. God truly hears our cries for significance, and so he whispers those longing into our hearts. God put these longings inside us in our search for significance.

The Bible says in Psalms 2:8, ‘Only ask, and I will give you the nations as your inheritance, the whole earth as your possession.’ This tells me I am part of his family, a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God’s special possession. This is the end of our searching. The end of your searching is Christ.

No Reserves

Philippians 2:5-8New International Version (NIV)

In your relationships with one another, have the same mindset as Christ Jesus:

Who, being in very nature God,
    did not consider equality with God something to be used to his own advantage;
rather, he made himself nothing
by taking the very nature of a servant,
    being made in human likeness.
And being found in appearance as a man,
    he humbled himself
    by becoming obedient to death—
        even death on a cross!

To live a life of ‘No Reserve’ means – nothing held back. It is a life lived full-out for Jesus Christ. Many are probably thinking right now, there is not way I can live up to this statement or live up to the Scripture in the beginning. I am not Jesus!

You are absolutely right. None of us are, but the first portion of this Scripture gives us a hint to how we can. Paul said, “Your attitude should be.” I do not know about you, but my attitude is life is only one of the few things that I can really control. So what is my attitude toward a life of ‘No Reserves’ look like?

  • A life of No Reserve means we do not hide behind a spiritual mask.
  • A life of No Reserve means one does not act one way with a set of friends and different with another.
  • A life of No Reserve does not toy around with secret sins when no one else is watching.
  • A life of No Reserve is not about pursuing a career that is focused on one’s self and amassing a fortune for one’s on benefit and pleasure.
  • A life of No Reserve is about being sold out to God’s calling – a calling that sets you up to make an eternal impact for God.

Men, when you live a life of ‘No Reserve’, you live with a burning passion to follow hard after Christ. When you follow Christ with ‘No Reserve’, you are simply responding to all that He has done for you. This is and attitude we can choose to step into.
