7 The Lord appeared to Abram and said, “To your offspring I will give this land.”So he built an altar there to the Lord, who had appeared to him.
Alters were used for communion with God. Alters commemorated notable encounters with God. Alters were built of rough stones and earth. Alters were often in high places to be continual reminders of God’s protection and promises. They were used for prayer and worship. Worshiping at the alters renewed love and loyalty to God. This helped with surviving spiritually by regularly worshiping at the alter. Is God the center of your life? Regular worship helps us remember that God desires us to obey him and trust in his promises.
