1 Thessalonians 5:16-18New Living Translation (NLT)
16 Always be joyful. 17 Never stop praying. 18 Be thankful in all circumstances, for this is God’s will for you who belong to Christ Jesus.
This coming week is Thanksgiving week. It is a time set aside with family and friends to enjoy the holiday feasts of turkey, dressing, mashed potatoes, and gravy. That sounds good.
This week I believe holds two thoughts of what Thanksgiving is all about. The first thought is that this holiday is the beginning of the Christmas season of going to the malls at midnight, the rush to fill wish lists, and the stress of the holiday season.
The second thought is that we just take in the Thanksgiving day by possibly going to church the night before or on the morning to Thanksgiving, enjoying the fellowship of family, and enjoying great food with family and friends.
All of this is great stuff, but I am reminded of what the passage in 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18 really says to rejoice always, to pray continually, and to give thanks in all things. I believe, men, this is the true measure that the Pilgrims had as they enjoyed the thankfulness of God’s gracious provision.
We will not be meeting as Vital Men the week of Thanksgiving. This will allow you time to spend with family and to allow Thanksgiving to be a true day of thankfulness to our Lord, Jesus Christ.
Have a blessed Thanksgiving.
Strength and Courage
