John 15:19 New International Version (NIV)
19 If you belonged to the world, it would love you as its own. As it is, you do not belong to the world, but I have chosen you out of the world. That is why the world hates you.
Many say being a Christian is simply uncool. Our culture is what I call hell bent to chasing and having your own way, go with the moment, and live life to the fullest because you are your own moral compass. It is taught in our schools, universities, and by the majority of our culture.
Stanley Hauer was a professor of religion at Drake University. He states that public schools treat ethics as a matter of individual decision making. The goal of moral education is to teach students how to make up their own minds. “The trouble with this thinking”, Hauer says, “Most student do not have minds worth making up.”
The bottom line is that our culture says being cool is doing whatever and living out your own life as you see fit. This is so upside down. My mom would always remind me of this in standing alone in my Christian faith. She said, “If you do not stand for something true, you will not stand for anything at all.”
Being uncool in culture will demand a stand. Proverbs 24:10 says, ‘If you fail under pressure, your strength is too small.’ Standing for Jesus will make the world hate you. We need uncool men to stand and lead in their homes, places of work, and in the church.
What will you choose? Do you want to be cool or uncool?
