Job 26:14 Indeed these are the mere edges of His ways, And how small a whisper we hear of Him! But the thunder of His power who can understand?” (NKJV)
I’m studying through Old Testament, presently. I am going through Job and this passage really struck me. I read it over and over. This statement from Job is so simple, concise and yet, perfectly profound.
In chapter 26 of Job, he is comparing the capacity and power of man, to that of God. He poses a series of questions, in essence, “what are you capable of, and what have you done?” It’s a rhetorical question, contrasted by the following statements illustrating but a small accounting of God’s capacity. “By His Spirit He adorned the heavens”. Job’s accounting gives us a glimpse of the supreme and endless extent of God’s power. Power, that I believe we cannot begin, even on the most basic level, to comprehend.
Job closes his illustration with verse 14. Yes He is all of this, everything, every where, no beginning, no end, His will is boundless. However, despite His unimaginable power, He comes to us in delicate whisper, loving tenderness.
Our Father, the Creator of all that is and ever will be, whispers to us. I will leave you to just meditate on that, as I have. Have a blessed weekend.
