Deuteronomy 20:4New Living Translation (NLT)
4 For the Lord your God is going with you! He will fight for you against your enemies, and he will give you victory!’
Ever feel that your losing the war in life? Do you feel like you are losing battle after battle? Do you find yourself asking when it will ever let up? Sometimes life feels that way when we lose perspective in who is fighting with us and for us.
This past week we lost a football game, 45-19. I am privileged to be the chaplain of the Newton Cardinals. I had just quoted the word to the team about opportunity. For each game the young men are given a word. I stated that taken opportunities win games, while lost opportunities and lead to defeat. That was our word for this game.
It was a night of missed opportunities for the Cardinals. We came into the game 5-0 and at the bottom of a 4-A division according to how many students are enrolled in school. We missed interception opportunities, dropped passes, and lost out on touch downs in the red zone 6 times.
Not much went in our favor. I then saw young men dropping their heads, some were weeping, and others stepped into isolation. They took on a beaten attitude and started looking for who or what to blame.
Life is like that too. When we lose battles against our enemy, we at times follow the same path. Instead of looking at it that we lost the battle, but look at it that we are still in the fight. When we stay focused on Christ our way is won. The enemy cannot chain us nor can he detour our lives from victory.
Men, our Lord Jesus fights for us. He went to a cross and died and rose 3 days later to break the strongholds the enemy wants for our lives. “Victory is ours!” says the Lord. Battles may be lost, while other battles will be won, but we know in the end the war has been won for our lives.
