Missing Someone

Luke 2:19 New International Version (NIV)

19 But Mary treasured up all these things and pondered them in her heart.

It is the final days of Christmas week. It comes to us before Halloween and it passes right after December 25. This on the 26th, it is a mad rush to return what you do not like or does not fit. A push for Christmas to come and quick moving on right when it is over.

My mind tried to travel back in time to the first Christmas in which Mary conceived the Christ Child, Jesus. Joseph stands at her side amongst the animals in the stable. The shepherds come to worship the child that lay in the manger.

I do not think it had the beauty of the moment that our Christmas cards try to make it. It was dirty and smelled. It was a humble beginning for God’s only Son. Yet, the Scriptures say Mary held that moment in her heart.

There is a Christmas song called Mary, Did You Know?  To me she may have had a slight glimpse of what her son would do in his life. I do not know for sure, but she held that moment in her heart.

Possibly while Jesus lay in the tomb for three days, Mary missed her son deeply. She possibly reflected on his birth to the horrific image of him on a cross. She was is sorrow of her son.

Let this week be a remembering week. Remember the birth of Christ and celebrate the price he gave for each of us. Christmas brings hope of our Savior, Jesus. Merry Christmas, brothers. May we all seek Jesus’ Hope and treasure what he has done for us and our hearts. Hold it to your heart like Mary held the birth of Jesus to her heart.

Strength and Courage

Michael
