Mary Visits Elizabeth
39 At that time Mary got ready and hurried to a town in the hill country of Judea, 40 where she entered Zechariah’s home and greeted Elizabeth.
Christmas gets busy fast. We go to parades. Put up lights. Trim the tree. Go to pageants. Buy gifts. It can be an anxious and hurried time.
The first Christmas was far from hurried in its beginning. In the Book of Luke in Chapter 1, Mary gets a visit from the Angel, Gabriel. He tells her that she would get pregnant by the Holy Spirit and would bear the Son of God.
In my mind, that would create busyness in Mary’s life. She needed to prepare for the baby. She needed to let her parents know. She needed to let her fiance know. Instead, Mary went to see her cousin, Elizabeth. It was a safe place. It was a place of refuge for Mary. Here she could process what Gabriel had told her about her pregnancy.
Now, let me give us a life application today. Can our home be a place of refuge for family and friends? Will your home be a place of peace? Can you love your family?
Do not allow your Christmas to be ‘Too Busy’.
