Genesis 32:3 New International Version (NIV)
3 Jacob sent messengers ahead of him to his brother Esau in the land of Seir, the country of Edom.
The last time Jacob had seen his brother, his brother had been ready to kill him. Jacob had stolen the family blessing. Esau was so angry that he vowed to kill Jacob as soon as their father, Isaac, died. Jacob feared this reunion, so he sent a messenger ahead of him with gifts. He was hoping for favor. Jacob was working to be gracious to Esau. Kindness and care will go a long way to help mend broken relationships.
