21 So Elisha left him and went back. He took his yoke of oxen and slaughtered them. He burned the plowing equipment to cook the meat and gave it to the people, and they ate. Then he set out to follow Elijah and became his servant.
Who doesn’t like a barbecue and hanging around a fire? We as men like to cook meat on an open fire. We will use certain woods, spices, and sauces in order to enhance the flavor of the meat.
Elisha has a different kind of barbecue laid out for him. He slaughtered 2 oxen out of 24 from his family business. He cuts up his plow. All of this was done so he would not look back, and he would step into the destiny God had called him.
It says the remaining verse that he passed around the meat to the towns people. Then, he walked away to follow Elijah to see and experience something greater than he had ever experienced.
In my life, I have had two burn the plow experiences. The first was when I was 29 and I left working for my dad and started my own business. The second was to step out in obedience and begin Vital Ministries. Both have had sacrifice, and both have changed the trajectory of my life.
Men, burning the plow will change your life. For some, it is a job change. For some a relationship or a change of people you hang out with. For many, it comes down to being an obedient man of God. Die to self and eyes on Jesus. What plow do you need to burn?
