Philippians 3:13-14 New International Version (NIV)
13 Brothers and sisters, I do not consider myself yet to have taken hold of it. But one thing I do: Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead, 14 I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus.
Burn the ship of the past and step into the future of what Christ has for you. We all look back. Learn from the past, but do not dwell there. It is a waste of time.
Think with me for a moment on Moses’ life. The first 40 years of his life, he was a prince. The second 40 years, he tended sheep. The third 40 years of his life, he was a leader of a nation who wondered around for those final years of his life.
His past could of held him, yet in Deuteronomy 34, he climbs Mount Nebo to Pisgah Peak. This was an elevation of 5,722 feet. The Lord showed him the whole land that was promised to Israel. Even though he could not enter the land, he was shown the land.
In my mind, there were no regrets of the past for Moses. He learned to burn that ship. He trusted God with his past, so he could walk into the future. He had trials along the way, and leading a nation was not easy. He did not dwell in the past. He learned from it and stepped into his future.
Do not allow your past to diminish your future. Burn the ship of the past. Live victorious in Christ and step into your future with him.
