The Angel of the Lord at Bokim
2 The angel of the Lord went up from Gilgal to Bokim and said, “I brought you up out of Egypt and led you into the land I swore to give to your ancestors. I said, ‘I will never break my covenant with you, 2 and you shall not make a covenant with the people of this land, but you shall break down their altars.’ Yet you have disobeyed me. Why have you done this? 3 And I have also said, ‘I will not drive them out before you; they will become traps for you, and their gods will become snares to you.’”
God made a special agreement with the Israelites. This was a covenant. God would make Israel a special nation, protect them, and give them unique blessings. The Israelites would love God and obey his laws. The Israelites rejected him and disobeyed. They did not keep their word. God did not abandon his people. If they would ask for forgiveness, change their ways, and follow him; they would receive the promised blessings. God wanted the Israelites to be a holy people. The Messiah’s coming still remained. God wants his people to be holy. Many times we want God to keep his promises, but we neglect to keep our promises and shirk our responsibilities. Ask yourself if you have done your part before you expect God to bless you with the fruits of his promises.
