Still Troubled? Why?

by | Nov 20, 2020 | Vital Men Devotions

‘And He was saying to them all, “If anyone wishes to come after Me, he must deny himself, and take up his cross daily and follow Me. ‘ Luke 9:23

“The reason why many are still troubled, still seeking, still making little forward progress is because they haven’t yet come to the end of themselves. We’re still trying to give orders, and interfering with God’s work within us. ”
― A. W. Tozer

A.W. Tozer was a 20th Century pastor.  He wrote a number of books on theology, but is probably best known for his writings regarding the pursuit of Christ, cultivating the relationship, abiding in Christ.  He is one of my favorite extra-scriptural authors and would highly recommend him.  This quote from him I think fairly sums up the greatest obstacle to the maturation process of Christians, ourselves.  We cannot get out of our own way.  The lack of denying self, living for Christ and others will make it impossible to find fullness in anything that we do.

‘For whoever wishes to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for My sake, he is the one who will save it. ‘ Luke 9:24

“God never hurries. There are no deadlines against which he must work. Only to know this is to quiet our spirits and relax our nerves.”
― A.W. Tozer, The Pursuit of God: The Human Thirst for the Divine

‘He has made everything appropriate in its time. He has also set eternity in their heart, yet so that man will not find out the work which God has done from the beginning even to the end. ‘ Ecclesiastes 3:11
