48 As the Philistine moved closer to attack him, David ran quickly toward the battle line to meet him. 49 Reaching into his bag and taking out a stone, he slung it and struck the Philistine on the forehead. The stone sank into his forehead, and he fell facedown on the ground.
50 So David triumphed over the Philistine with a sling and a stone; without a sword in his hand he struck down the Philistine and killed him.
51 David ran and stood over him. He took hold of the Philistine’s sword and drew it from the sheath. After he killed him, he cut off his head with the sword.
When the Philistines saw that their hero was dead, they turned and ran.
David used his skills that he had developed while being a shepherd for his family’s flocks. He could not use the armor and weapons of the Israeli Army because he had never used them. David was an expert marksman with his sling. He knew how to advance on Goliath and stay out of range of his weapons. David had done this many times while guarding his flocks. He had killed lions and bears to protect his father’s flocks. He could use his abilities to kill Goliath. To fight like David, you need David’s faithfulness, confidence, and trust in God. He had developed his abilities that God had given him. When you are facing towering problems, take time to remember how God has helped you and look at the abilities that God has gifted you. Use your skills to move forward. Know God will give you the strength to get through and conquer.
