So, I’ve had the privilege of spending the last several days in the colorful Rockie Mountains of Colorado. I’ve spent four days in canyon steams fly fishing and will conclude this trip atop a mountain shooting the Total Archery Challenge. Most of you know by now that I absolutely LOVE being in the outdoors, but especially in our western mountains. It’s become a total reset for me. The places I go tend to disconnect me from most of the hustle and bustle of what is the daily grind. No phones, no TV, no email, no internet. If you’ve never done it I highly recommend giving it a try. Even if it’s as simple as picking one day a week to shut off your phone, unplug the TV, decompress, spend time with family and friends and make time to really commune with God.
We have so much thrown at us on a daily basis, it is very hard to find peace and solace in our day to day world. So, trips like this and my annual elk hunt do that for me on a large scale. You would be amazed at what you will hear from God when you can just be with Him. We need that and, believe it or not, God WANTS that. I know most people live a very hectic life these days. Believe me I know. My days are generally 18-20 hrs long and I’m left feeling like that is not enough. However, the most important thing in you day should be your time with God. Yes, it’s important to always be mindful of His presence and be in constant contact with Him. But, I believe, even more important is that time we intentionally set aside to get in His word and speak directly to Him and listen for His voice on the matters of the day, week month and year. This time has to be uninterrupted and intentional.
So, find your time “in the stream” with God. Find that quiet spot to “visit Him on the mountain”. Immerse yourself in His word. Don’t depend on what you hear from other people, go to the Source.
‘For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but wanting to have their ears tickled, they will accumulate for themselves teachers in accordance to their own desires, and will turn away their ears from the truth and will turn aside to myths. ‘ 2 Timothy 4:3-4
