John 19:28-30 “…After this, Jesus, knowing that all was now finished, said in fulfillment of the Scripture, “I am thirsty.” A jar full of sour wine was placed there; so they put a sponge soaked in the sour wine on [a branch of] hyssop and held it to His mouth. When Jesus had received the sour wine, He said, “It is finished!” And He bowed His head and [voluntarily] gave up His spirit…”
God is continually at work in us, even though we embody the finished work of Christ.
This may sound like a contradiction to you, but I believe what the ‘finished work of Christ’ really means is: Everything God accomplished through the sacrifice of Christ on the cross is ours to live in ‘now’. Christ is our once and for all final sacrifice bringing us reconciliation with the Father.
What the cross of Christ accomplished for us is:
-
Reconciliation
-
Forgiveness
-
Redemption
-
Adoption
-
Restoration
-
Salvation
-
Freedom
-
Righteousness
-
Healing
-
Wholeness
-
Oneness
-
…and Hope!
Christ made this possible and nothing else needs to be done. It is Finished! I believe we really need to grasp this and have the understanding that, although we walk in Christ’s finished work, God is still at work in us—perfecting and completing us. God’s work is an ongoing process as He develops His character in us and brings us to spiritual maturity.
Christ’s finished work abides in us
Believe it, live it, walk in it.
