Deuteronomy 6:4-9 New International Version (NIV)
4 Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God, the Lord is one. 5 Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength. 6 These commandments that I give you today are to be on your hearts. 7 Impress them on your children. Talk about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up. 8 Tie them as symbols on your hands and bind them on your foreheads. 9 Write them on the doorframes of your houses and on your gates.
This passage sets the theme and sets a pattern to help us relate to the Word of God as it goes with our daily lives. We are to love God. Think about and ponder his commandments and build them into your life until they are part of who you are. Teach God’s commandments to your children to foster and nurture them according to God’s Word. Live each day by God’s Word and learn about the practical teachings that help you live life. Remember, the eternal truth of God’s Word is most effectively learned and embedded through a loving environment in a God-fearing home.
