Deuteronomy 6:24 New International Version (NIV)
24 The Lord commanded us to obey all these decrees and to fear the Lord our God, so that we might always prosper and be kept alive, as is the case today.
What does it mean when we see the statement, “so he can continue to bless us and preserve our lives”? Does it mean that you can expect only good things? Does it mean that you will experience no suffering if you obey? Here is the promise. You can have a right relationship with God by obeying his command to love him with all that you are. Knowing God is the ultimate benefit. Loving God with all that you are is the ultimate benefit. There is no blanket protection against poverty, hard times, or suffering, but your relationship with God is the ultimate benefit in your life. Pursue your relationship with God and make a life of getting to know him.
