What do you think of when you hear the term “humble living?’
Perhaps a simple life. A basic life. An old-timer’s life? An unexciting life perhaps?
A humble life is SO countercultural. The world calls out to us to strive to be popular, successful, noticed, bold, confident, promotional, self-focused.
Proverbs 11:2 NIV When pride comes, then comes disgrace, but with humility comes wisdom.
Solomon talks multiple times in Proverbs about the contrast between pride and humility.
I am excited for these next months that our Vital Men groups are digging into the episodes of Season One of The Chosen. We will get a great perspective on the humble living of Jesus. Jesus is NOT boring; He is dynamic and exciting. He walks daily with confidence as He knows his grounding with Abba and the power that provides Him.
What does it look like for us to live humbly in this next week? Listening more than talking. Serving rather than being served. Being others-focused instead of focusing on my wants.
I shared last Saturday night with our Vital Men Kickoff that Dallas Willard in one word described Jesus as RELAXED. So interesting! The Jesus we see in The Chosen knew He could confidently live humbly because of God’s presence in His life. As Vital Men we have that same opportunity. My prayer for us as Vital Men is that we walk with Abba in such a way that we find the rhythm of relaxed, humble living. No better way than the Jesus way!
