Scripture:
“No one can serve two masters. Either you will hate the one and love the other, or you will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and money.” Matthew 6:24
Lesson:
When you admit your powerlessness, you can begin the journey that will allow you to accept Jesus’ healing, love, and forgiveness.
Here are two things you should stop doing:
- Stop Denying the Pain You are ready to move forward on your recovery journey when your pain is greater than your fear.
- Stop Playing God You can’t do for yourself only what God can do. You are either going to serve God or yourself. You can’t serve both.
Here are two things you should start doing:
- Start Admitting Your Powerlessness By yourself, you do not have the power to change your hurts, habits, and hang-ups.
- Start Admitting That Your Life Has Become Unmanageable It’s time to finally admit that some or all areas of your life are out of control and need to be changed.
Life Application:
Our hurts, habits, and hang-ups only have power over us as long as we allow them to. Even if we recognize them in our lives and want to be free from them, they will still have power over us as long as we give them life in our minds. We must take every thought captive and make them obedient to God (2 Corinthians 10:5). It is then that we are leaning not on our own understanding and trusting in God (Proverbs 3:5).
