Scripture:
So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand. Isaiah 41:10
Lesson:
Last time we covered four major areas where people can get stuck in their recovery. Here are 3 more major areas. Here are 4 major areas where people can get stuck during their recovery.
1. You are afraid of the risk in making the necessary change
You may be paralyzed by the fear of failure. You have a fear of rejection or being hurt again. You may resist change (growth) because of the fear of the unknown. Jesus understands these fears! While He was on earth, he felt the same fears. Give all your fears to Him, and He will help you! This is a journey that we take one day at a time.
2. You are not willing to “own” your responsibility
You need to take responsibility for your past in a broken relationship, a damaged friendship, with a distant child or parent, and so forth.
3. You have not developed an effective support team
Do you have a sponsor or an accountability partner? Have you volunteered for a commitment to your recovery ministry? Do you have the phone numbers of others in your small group?
Application:
“It is for freedom that Christ has set us free. Stand firm, then, and do not let yourselves be burdened again by a yoke of slavery.” Galatians 5:1 I wanted peace and freedom for so long but was never able to find it. I was looking in all the wrong places. It wasn’t until I handed my entire life over to Christ that I truly had peace and freedom. The enemy tells us that living in our sin and in the dark is where we will find happiness. But it is a lie. freedom is finding peace and joy in Christ apart from sin. Sin will only lead to death and destruction. Christ is the way, the truth, and the life, life in abundance! Be strong and courageous in Christ, and I assure you things will begin to fall into place. You will find a peace in your heart that only the Holy Spirit can bring.True
