Matthew 3:15 New International Version (NIV)
15 Jesus replied, “Let it be so now; it is proper for us to do this to fulfill all righteousness.” Then John consented.
Jesus was baptized by his cousin, John the Baptist. John prepared the way for Jesus. Jesus knew it was right that he be baptized. Jesus was without sin, but he did so out of righteousness. Jesus is without sin. Jesus did not need the repentance of baptism. But, because Jesus submitted to the will of God, he could be humble and submit to John. When we are humble, we are in our true self. Humility allows us to love and live in truth. Baptism for us is an expression of submission and repentance of sin. Through baptism I show I am a follower of Jesus.
