Burn the Ships on Fear

by | Jan 6, 2020 | Vital Men Devotions

1 John 4:18 New International Version (NIV)

18 There is no fear in love. But perfect love drives out fear, because fear has to do with punishment. The one who fears is not made perfect in love.

With the beginning of a new year in 2020, many will make New Year’s Resolutions that will soon fade away in less than a week. We make them and tell everyone this is what will change in the new year.

I would like for us to look at the new year in a different light. This idea came to me from the song, Burn the Ships. What ship do you need to burn in order for you to have victory in your own life.

This week a ship that I would like to burn is ‘Fear’. Fear will hold you captive and will not allow you to see what is over the next hill or mountain. You see, fear itself, can become sage. If I do not burn it down, it will hold me captive.

My youngest grandson is named Beniah. He is only one year old. His is full of life. I recently visited by son’s family, and I had a moment with my grandson. He stood at the edge of a table and free fell into my arms. He did not hesitate. He knew I would catch him. There was no fear. He had trust.

Here is my point. My grandson knew that I would not allow him to fall to the ground. He had no fear. He had trust in me catching him.

That is the same with our Heavenly Father. His arms are always open to catch us from a fall. Trust him. If you have fear in your life, do not have fear in burning that ship. Burn the fears and do not bring them into 2020.

The perfect love of our Heavenly Father casts fear away.

Strength and Courage
