Genesis 2:15-17 New International Version (NIV)
15 The Lord God took the man and put him in the Garden of Eden to work it and take care of it. 16 And the Lord God commanded the man, “You are free to eat from any tree in the garden; 17 but you must not eat from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, for when you eat from it you will certainly die.”
God gave Adam a responsibility. He was to care for the garden. He was given instructions to follow. He was not to eat from the tree of knowledge of good and evil. God did not physically prevent or put a barrier up to prevent Adam from eating from this tree. God gave Adam a choice. God gave Adam the freedom to choose even if there was a possibility of him choosing wrongly. We have choices today. We have the choice to choose wisely or poorly. Either way, there are consequences to these choices. When we choose wisely, we get to benefit from those wise choices. When we choose sin and choose poorly, we must live through the uncomfortable consequences, as well. Either way, God is with us if we choose to invite him into our lives. If he is in your life and an active part of it, there will be fewer and fewer poor choices. Through our choices, we learn and grow. Choose to have God in your life and to build a lasting relationship with him. He will walk with you and you can walk with him.
