Social media, the news cycle, culture, government unrest nationally and internationally … all of these things challenge our spirit. Without intentionally claiming God’s power, we are prone to fall into a cycle of fear, anxiety and isolation.
What is interesting about our Christian life is the reality that we are called to fight in a battle that God has already won. It might seem this would give us comfort and potentially confidence, but instead we tend to live without peace and we have an abundance of UNDER-confidence. While we probably believe in the POWER of God for future salvation, we are not consistently living in the POWER of God in our present circumstances. We are not consistently asking God to intervene with our thoughts, our concerns, our anxiety.
What if we consistently, daily claimed God’s POWER that we read in Scripture? I’m going to share two verses (Psalm 27:1; 2 Timothy 1:7) in two translations (New International Version; The Message) that I recite regularly to remind me to engage God’s POWER.
Psalm 27:1 NIV The Lord is my light and my salvation – whom shall I fear? The Lord is the stronghold of my life – of whom shall I be afraid?
Psalm 27:1 MSG Light, space, zest – that’s God! So, with him on my side I’m fearless, afraid of no one and nothing.
2 Timothy 1:7 NIV For the Spirit God gave us does not make us timid, but gives us power, love and self-discipline.
2 Timothy 1:7 MSG God doesn’t want us to be shy with his gifts, but bold and loving and sensible.
Men – lead out with me; let’s consistently, daily claim God’s victory and POWER! God is eager for us to rise up and engage what He has called us to do.
