Genesis 3:14 New International Version (NIV)
14 So the Lord God said to the serpent, “Because you have done this,
“Cursed are you above all livestock
and all wild animals!
You will crawl on your belly
and you will eat dust
all the days of your life.
Adam and Eve chose their course of disobedience. Then, God chose his course of action. God is holy, and because he is holy, he could only respond in a way that is consistent with his character and his perfect moral nature. The sin could not go unchecked. It had to be punished. Sin had to have a consequence because of the disobedient action. Sometimes we may think the consequences may be extreme, but remember, the sin of Adam and Eve set in motion the tendency to lean toward disobedience. Every human being born, with the exception of Jesus, inherited a sinful nature. The punishment that they received reflects how seriously God views sin of any kind. Confess your sin to God, repent by changing your ways, and fight to stay on the straight and narrow path. Be a part of God’s remnant.
