Genesis 22:13 New International Version (NIV)
13 Abraham looked up and there in a thicket he saw a ram caught by its horns.He went over and took the ram and sacrificed it as a burnt offering instead of his son.
There is a parallel between the ram that was offered on the alter as a substitute for Abraham’s son. The parallel is with Christ who was offered on the cross as a substitute for us. God stopped Abraham from sacrificing his son, but he did not spare his Son. Jesus came to die on the cross. If he had not, humankind would have died. Jesus died, so we would not have eternal life separated from God. Jesus provided a way to eternal life in God’s presence and in the presence of Jesus. We get to live because Jesus died and rose again to conquer death. Anyone who believes in Jesus and what he did for us, has eternal life.
