10 This is how you will know that the living God is among you and that he will certainly drive out before you the Canaanites, Hittites, Hivites, Perizzites, Girgashites, Amorites and Jebusites.
Why would God help the Israelites drive out the nations from their native land? The people of Canaan were wicked and deserved to be punished for their terrible sins. Israel was to be the vehicle for this punishment. Israel was a holy nation and could not live among such evil. If they did live among them, it would invite sin into their lives. The evil religions had to be driven out. But, they did not follow God’s directions, and it was not long before the holy nation of Israel started to follow the evil practices of the Canaanites. How does that apply to us today? It is important to fellowship with believers. This fellowship strengthens your faith. We have to be out in this world, but make sure you take time in your life to fellowship with other believers and to get into God’s Word daily. Fill your soul with God’s Word and the fellowship of other believers.
