1 When King David was very old, he could not keep warm even when they put covers over him.

Israel was coming to the end of the golden years with David as the king. The kingdom was unified and God centered. The decline of Israel was due to the reason that they would not obey God. David was about 70 years old. His health was deteriorating due to the hardships of his younger life. Israel had a choice to continue to obey God, but they were vulnerable with greed, jealousy, lust for power, and weakness in devotion to God. Solomon was to succeed David as king. As you come to the end of your life one day, will you still be God centered?
