Genesis 41:8 New International Version (NIV)
8 In the morning his mind was troubled, so he sent for all the magicians and wise men of Egypt. Pharaoh told them his dreams, but no one could interpret them for him.
Magicians and wise men were common in the palaces of ancient rulers. They studied sacred arts, sciences, stars, dreams, future prediction, and magic. These men thought they had power, but they did not. They were not able to interpret Pharaoh’s dream. God does, however, have the power. He is the Creator. God showed Joseph what the dream meant. Through God’s power, Joseph was able to interpret the dream. By giving God the glory, Joseph honored God. Joseph would be freed from the imprisonment that he had endured.
