Genesis 3:7-8 New International Version (NIV)
7 Then the eyes of both of them were opened, and they realized they were naked;so they sewed fig leaves together and made coverings for themselves.
8 Then the man and his wife heard the sound of the Lord God as he was walking in the garden in the cool of the day, and they hid from the Lord God among the trees of the garden.
After sinning Adam and Eve felt guilt and embarrassment. They tried to hide from God. That has not changed. After sin comes feelings of guilt and embarrassment. Then we think we can hide from God. A guilty conscience is a warning signal God has placed inside us. This goes off when you do something wrong. Do not try to stifle this. Instead, go to the cause and eliminate it. Treat the disease and do not deny it. Face sin head on. Do not run from it. Be glad those guilty feelings are there. They will help you get back on track if you use them and learn from them. Guilt makes you aware of your sin. Then, you can ask for forgiveness from God and work with him to correct your wrongdoing. God wants you to go to him immediately. He already knows anyway. He wants you to acknowledge it to yourself. Once you recognize it in yourself, you can begin the road to healing with God by your side.
