7 And Joshua said, “Alas, Sovereign Lord, why did you ever bring this people across the Jordan to deliver us into the hands of the Amorites to destroy us? If only we had been content to stay on the other side of the Jordan! 8 Pardon your servant, Lord. What can I say, now that Israel has been routed by its enemies? 9 The Canaanites and the other people of the country will hear about this and they will surround us and wipe out our name from the earth. What then will you do for your own great name?”
This is a prayer of a man who is afraid and confused at to what is going on around him. Joshua poured out his true thoughts to God. God already knew how Joshua felt. Joshua needed to acknowledge it to himself and to God, then a real dialogue could happen. Do you hide your needs from God? Do you truly believe God cares how you feel? Do not hide your feelings or needs from God. He is the One who can help you. God welcomes your true feeling and thoughts. He wants you to express what you are really thinking and talk things through with him. You can become more honest in prayer when you remember that God is all knowing and all powerful and that his love for you will never change. When you have an honest dialogue with God, you learn more about yourself, and your relationship with God will grow and mature.
