Our Pella Vital Men group just wrapped up Season 2 of The Chosen. We noticed these past couple weeks the increasing intensity that was building with Episodes 7 and 8 of Season 2. We’re already looking forward to Episode 1 of Season 3 where Jesus shares His Sermon on the Mount! As Jesus and Matthew were discussing the placement of Jesus’ words about being salt and light (Matthew 5:13-16) within His sermon, it brought to my mind the insights of theologian John Stott about how we can practically show and share Jesus. Stott identified 6 M’s that help us as Christians connect God’s Word with our everyday lives. Here are Stott’s 6 M’s:
- MODEL Godly character by reflecting Jesus to those around us. Consider how we treat others. God called us to be a conduit of the Spirit’s loving and life-giving fruit.
- MAKE good work by remembering that whatever we put our hands to is for the glory of God. Our work, paid or unpaid, is a powerful witness for Jesus.
- MINISTER grace and love in various ways. Be a safe space for a hurting colleague. Go for coffee with someone who is struggling. Respond quietly to someone who’s let us down. Remember … the little things matter.
- MOLD culture by countering blame and anger with love and responsibility. Admit our mistakes. Forgive others. Quench gossip by offering a positive word.
- Be a MESSENGER of the Gospel as we intentionally live each day sharing Jesus with those around us.
- Be a MOUTHPIECE for truth and justice by promoting good, fair and just practices.
Men – which of these M words connects most significantly with you? Which M challenges you? God wants to work thru us. Please use this 6 M’s framework as you find it guides your application of being salt and light from day to day with relationships, with work, with service.
