Jeremiah 9:24 “But let the one who boasts boast in this, that he understands and knows Me [and acknowledges Me and honors Me as God and recognizes without any doubt], that I am the Lord who practices lovingkindness, justice and righteousness on the earth, for in these things I delight,” says the Lord.
The only thing worth boasting in is ‘God’. Nothing we have, nor anything we do, can compare to knowing God. We can have the greatest mind in the world, but knowing God intimately surpasses that. We can be the most successful or talented person in the world, but that lacks in comparison to having a saving knowledge of God. Having a great mind and being successful or being blessed with amazing talent and abilities are not bad things, but we so often pursue these things above pursuing relationship with God. We tend to elevate these things in our world. But when we bring God into the equation, when we let Him use us and our God-given abilities, He can multiply what He’s already placed in our hands and increase our sphere of influence in the world.
It is God who practices lovingkindness, justice and righteousness on the earth—and He takes delight in these things. This should be our boast! We, too, must practice lovingkindness towards all those in whom we come in contact with, demonstrate justice for those who have no voice and uphold God’s righteousness in our own personal lives, communities, nation and world. Even if it’s not popular, we need to stand in truth and righteousness because God delights in these things. It brings pleasure to Him and our ‘approval’ is found in Him, not in the world. Therefore, this is our boast that we know God intimately and we pursue His practice of lovingkindness, justice and righteousness. To boast in anything else is mere prideful vanity!
