In this Advent season we have an opportunity to review the story of Jesus coming to earth. It struck me over these past weeks that the characters in the birth of Jesus dealt with significant interruptions in their lives.
Mary found out that she was pregnant … by the Holy Spirit!
Joseph found out his future wife was pregnant.
Joseph and Mary had to travel 4 days to Bethlehem when she was on the verge of giving birth to Jesus.
The shepherds by Bethlehem were startled out of their sandals when the angels appeared and announced the Messiah was born.
What stood out to me with the announcements to Mary and Joseph and the shepherds by angels was the command, “Do not be afraid.”
Aha … God’s got it! Mary, Joseph, the shepherds found comfort, peace and I would even project confidence in their respective interruptions because God told them they could trust what was happening.
How do we handle life’s interruptions? In our humanness we’re frustrated, disappointed, potentially angry. But what if we talked to God about what was happening … what His plan included for us?
God wants us to trust Him especially in the interruptions and challenges. God WILL provide. He WILL deliver. Most of the time we are NOT patient to trust His process or His plan. I know … that’s been me a lot of the time.
Men – my encouragement is that we talk to God FIRST when our lives are disrupted or interrupted. I believe He will guide us. He will direct us in our responses.
