18 Appoint judges and officials for each of your tribes in every town the Lord your God is giving you, and they shall judge the people fairly. 19 Do not pervert justice or show partiality. Do not accept a bribe, for a bribe blinds the eyes of the wise and twists the words of the innocent. 20 Follow justice and justice alone, so that you may live and possess the land the Lord your God is giving you.
Israel had Joshua as their national leader when they entered the Promised Land, but they would need to appoint leaders with justice and God’s Wisdom. The Israelites failed to complete this task and choose leaders who would lead the tribes, districts, and cities with justice and God’s Wisdom. Rebellion and injustice would plague their communities. It is a serious responsibility to appoint or elect wise and just officials. What do you do in your sphere of influence? Are you ensuring that justice and godliness are important? Are you choosing leaders who will uphold justice? Take time to think about who you want leading in your community, church, and country. Look for proposed leaders that demonstrate justice and godly wisdom.
