Blanchard, Hodges and Hendry build on the BEING attributes of Jesus by showing how Jesus knew and applied Scripture. Jesus found phenomenal power in the truth of Scripture. He countered Satan and his doubters by quoting Scripture. He loved others so beautifully as he lived out God’s love shown in Scripture.
2 Timothy 3:16-17 (NIV) All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.
The first paragraph of Chapter 15 in “Lead Like Jesus” says this, “It is through Scripture that you come to know God and His ways. In the pages of His Word, God invites you to know Him and experience His love. In Scripture you discover that God loves you. He has great plans for you, and He created you perfectly to accomplish a specific purpose. The study of Scripture equips us to fulfill God’s plan for us. Scripture also instructs us how to treat one another, how to love as we have been loved, and, yes, how to lead like Jesus.”
Blanchard, Hodges and Hendry identify FIVE ways to know and apply scripture and grow in our adventure of walking with God.
HEARING THE WORD is one way to grow in Scripture. My mom uses this method regularly thru the Bible app. I have several friends that also do this regularly while traveling or walking.
READING, STUDYING AND MEDITATING ON THE WORD are three additional ways to grow with God’s Word.
MEMORIZING THE WORD is the fifth way to make the Scripture a part of our daily life. My friend, Aaron, has been an encouragement to me with memorizing the Bible as I’ve observed him memorize five books of the New Testament. I have seen this practice transform his life and the lives of others around him. Aaron’s example has prompted two of my friends to memorize the book of James and that is also my goal in the upcoming months.
Men – are you actively seeking God’s presence by spending time engaging the Bible? What is your “go to” method for connecting with God’s Word? Is the Holy Spirit prompting you to explore a new method for applying Scripture?
