Stepping back into the book “Lead Like Jesus” by Blanchard, Hodges and Hendry, I recognize that Jesus’ leadership experiences on earth give Him the ability to be a premier consultant for us. We ask, “Does Jesus have any practical knowledge with leadership issues like those I face from day to day?”
Yes! Consider Jesus worked with, lived with, and cared for imperfect people. He trained, delegated and developed others. He was under constant scrutiny by competitors and handled that pressure with grace. His integrity and commitment was regularly questioned. He handled opposition, criticism and rejection. He stepped into conflicting demands with both friends and enemies. He was tempted with instant gratification, recognition and the misuse of power. He communicated effectively in a diverse, multicultural environment.
Hebrews 4:15-16 (NIV): For we do not have a high priest who is unable to empathize with our weaknesses, but we have one who has been tempted in every way, just as we are – yet he did not sin. Let us then approach God’s throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need.
Yes – Jesus’ example is a great reference for how we can lead in life and relationships yet today. His leadership experience gives Him credibility to be our greatest leadership role model.
Men – continue to engage Jesus stories in the Bible as we look for wisdom with our roles in life. Jesus gets us; He desires us to walk today as His apprentices.
