Matthew 21:21-22 (NKJV) ‘So Jesus answered and said to them, “Assuredly, I say to you, if you have faith and do not doubt, you will not only do what was done to the fig tree, but also if you say to this mountain, ‘Be removed and be cast into the sea,’ it will be done. And whatever things you ask in prayer, believing, you will receive.”
I, obviously, have never lived in any generation other than the present one. I have nothing to go on but the accounts of others that have. I would say, in regards to faith, the strength or lack of, has changed little from the previous ones to the present.
Even here in Matthew, we see Jesus pointing to the lack of faith exhibited by His disciples of first hand witness. Remarkable, isn’t it?! Well, not really, when you consider they were mere men, no different, no greater, no worse than we are.
I will not pretend to be a man of endless faith. I waver, stumble, loose sight and loose hope the same as the men who walked along Jesus, the same as you. But why? He tells us plainly, ‘have faith, without doubt and you will move mountains. Believe, ask and it will be done.’
Through out scripture, God shows us how He uses men and women of all caliber, social standing or lack there of for miraculous works. More often than not, we see them first play into satan’s schemes, his lies of doubt, shame, feelings of guilt, disqualification and lack of justification. So, what does God do, instance after instance? He promises to go with them. Moses, David, Abraham, Gideon, Paul, Mary, Joseph, the list goes on and on. Bottom line, they weren’t qualified. They weren’t justified, nor are we. God is. The same today as He was then. And… He goes with us.
John 14:12-18, 26-27 “Most assuredly, I say to you, he who believes in Me, the works that I do he will do also; and greater works than these he will do, because I go to My Father. And whatever you ask in My name, that I will do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son. If you ask anything in My name, I will do it. “If you love Me, keep My commandments. And I will pray the Father, and He will give you another Helper, that He may abide with you forever— the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it neither sees Him nor knows Him; but you know Him, for He dwells with you and will be in you. I will not leave you orphans; I will come to you… But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name, He will teach you all things, and bring to your remembrance all things that I said to you. Peace I leave with you, My peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.”
Faith… He says it very plainly. So, what will you believe? Have a blessed weekend!
