Deuteronomy 4:24 New International Version (NIV)
24 For the Lord your God is a consuming fire, a jealous God.
God is a devouring fire because he is morally perfect. He hates sin. He cannot accept those who practice it. Sin keeps us from entering God’s presence. Jesus Christ paid the penalty. He is the sacrifice. Jesus removed God’s judgement forever. Trusting in Jesus Christ will save you from God’s anger. Trusting in Jesus Christ will allow you to begin a personal relationship with him. So with this, God is jealous. He wants our full devotion. Jealous is appropriate and good with God because he makes a strong and exclusive demand for us to treat him as our only God. No one else or no thing can come before God. With the help of the Holy Spirit you can put into practice keeping God first in your life. Jesus is our mediator and through Jesus, you can have a life giving relationship with the Trinity: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.
