3 March around the city once with all the armed men. Do this for six days. 4 Have seven priests carry trumpets of rams’ horns in front of the ark. On the seventh day, march around the city seven times, with the priests blowing the trumpets. 5 When you hear them sound a long blast on the trumpets, have the whole army give a loud shout; then the wall of the city will collapse and the army will go up, everyone straight in.”
God gave Joshua many complicated instructions for the battle. Why did he do this? First, it would be undeniably clear that the battle would depend upon God, and that is why the priests led the Israelites into battle and not the soldiers and weaponry. Next, the way the city was taken was never done before, and this brought fear to the people in Jericho. Then, this was not a practiced military maneuver. Would the Israelites trust God and do everything he instructed them to do? The horns blown for religious festivals were not being blown for war. This would be a reminder that God was the reason for their victory. Have you ever had a battle won in a way you never expected? Have you ever had a victory that you could not explain? When you put your full trust in God and listen and follow his Word, you will get to experience his amazing victories in your life.
