My hope is that Holy Week and the pinnacle of Easter Sunday were a time that you experienced Jesus’ love for you and felt the Holy Spirit’s power to carry Jesus’ resurrection forward into this week and beyond. As I visited with friends and family over the past weekend, there were a number of principles from Maundy Thursday that I wanted to share with you:
- True greatness is expressed thru humility. Jesus, the King of Kings, washed feet. How can we exhibit humility similar to Jesus in life from day to day?
- Leadership is servanthood. Jesus prepared His followers to serve, not to rule. Again … how can we serve like Jesus today, tomorrow, next week?
- Communion is covenant … not ceremony. It draws us close in awe, remembrance and thanksgiving. I took communion with my sister last Thursday evening. My sister and I don’t get an opportunity to worship together very often because she lives out of state. We each noted that our communion experience stirred our hearts with fresh gratitude.
- Love must be action … not just emotion. Jesus demonstrated love thru sacrifice. My heart hopes that our love is visible thru what we do, not just what we say.
PRAYER: Lord Jesus, I thank You for stooping low to serve. Teach me to do the same. Let my heart overflow with gratitude for Your sacrifice. May I serve with humility, remember with reverence, and love with boldness. Help me never forget the price You paid and the example You set.
