Mountains

¹⁵ Mount Bashan, majestic mountain,
    Mount Bashan, rugged mountain,
¹⁶ why gaze in envy, you rugged mountain,
    at the mountain where God chooses to reign,
    where the Lord himself will dwell forever?

In the land northeast of Israel is the home of mighty mountains. In this mountain area is Mount Hermon. It is the tallest and most awesome mountain in that region. God chose Mount Zion for the Temple. It is a foothill by comparison. Here God could have chosen the most awesome mountain for the Temple. He chose Mount Zion instead. It shows us that God does great things through unexpected ways and through weakness he demonstrates his glory.
