Deuteronomy 4:19 New International Version (NIV)
19 And when you look up to the sky and see the sun, the moon and the stars—all the heavenly array—do not be enticed into bowing down to them and worshiping things the Lord your God has apportioned to all the nations under heaven.
God did not excuse the other nations for their idol worship. Judgement would be delayed for those nations. God’s people, Israel, knew God’s laws, so judgement would be swift and complete. Remember, idol worship is the commitment to the evil qualities that items or practices represent. When we honor the attributes of people or nature without reference to God who created them, this would be idolatry. God revealed himself very clearly in Israel’s history. Israel had not excuse for worshipping any person or power but the one true God. Do you find yourself putting things before God? Do you forget to invite God into your life on a daily basis? Practice putting God first. Honor God. Obey God. You will find that when you are active in your relationship with God, that you will have peace.
