5 “For God knows that when you eat from it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil.”
Satan used a motive to tempt Eve. He said she could be like God. Now, it is not wrong to want to be more like God. To be more like God is our goal. We are working to be more holy. It is what we are supposed to do. Eve was misled in how to accomplish the goal of being more like God. Eve was told that defying God’s authority was the way to be more like him. She was to take God’s place and decide for herself what was best for her. She was to become her own god. She was in charge of her life, and she could make her own decisions without God’s guidance. Now, to become like God is nothing like trying to become God. To become like God, we want to learn how to reflect his characteristics. It is to recognize God’s authority over your life. On the contrary, self exaltation will lead to rebellion against God. When you leave God out of your plans, you place yourself above God. This is exactly what the world tells us to do. You are your own boss. Do what feels best for you. Who cares if you hurt others. I am not happy, so I will do what it takes to be happy, even at other’s expense. Don’t look to achieve your life goals the wrong way. Walk with God, and he will walk with you through thick and thin, and he will tell you that you are his own.
