This past January, I plugged in my phone to recharge one night and it would not connect at all to power up, despite multiple attempts even through the next day.  I was able to back-up my data before the phone finally died the next day.  This scenario had happened before, but it eventually was able to connect on prior attempts, and I even bought a new port to try to get it to work again, but that did not succeed either.  We have to recharge lots of things in our lives, like phones, computers, tablets, and some vehicles, but what do we do to recharge ourselves on a regular basis?  Sure, we need to get adequate food and sleep to function well, but how long can we get by on just those physical things before we start to fatigue and feel the need to recharge our mind and soul?  What things do you try to do periodically that recharge your life and bring a sense of newness to your soul?

Keep your heart with all vigilance, for from it flow the springs of life.  Proverbs 4:23

This past year, our microwave started having issues and I was able to replace a door switch that kept it going until it would randomly just stop after 10-30 seconds.  I was going to replace it when it suddenly started working properly again, so I keep expecting it to revert back to broken because microwaves don’t normally spontaneously heal themselves.  Eventually, most of the mechanical things around us wear out and either need repaired or replaced.  Our washing machine quit working a couple weeks ago and my car needs new brakes, and there will likely be something new to fix this next month.  It could get discouraging, or it could also be a reminder to take care of our own bodies so that we can function at an optimal level.  For me, I like to take a short break during a busy day to go for a 5-10 minute walk to clear my head and breathe deeply for a bit.  If possible, a short 10-15 minute power nap also does wonders to recharge my batteries.  I try to go for a short run 1-2 times per week because it challenges my body and just helps me feel better physically as well.  What do you do and what would you like to do to rejuvenate each week?

I can do all things through him who strengthens me.  Philippians 4:13

Do you feel you ever need to recharge your spiritual life as well, and if so, how?  For me, and likely for most of us it is pretty simple.  When we can do a few simple things regularly, it reconnects us to God and gives us strength and motivation to go forward with each day and season in life.  Regular time in Prayer and in the Word reconnects us with God and recharges our souls.  The result of this time almost always compels us to action in the form of acts of love toward others.  When we can serve in a purposeful way, we are even more motivated to go forward and do good without growing weary.  May you find those things that can recharge your body and soul each day in a way that is helpful for you and everyone around you as well!

But they who wait for the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles; they shall run and not be weary; they shall walk and not faint.  Isaiah 40:31
