Genesis 37:36 New International Version (NIV)
36 Meanwhile, the Midianites sold Joseph in Egypt to Potiphar, one of Pharaoh’s officials, the captain of the guard.
Have you ever had culture shock when you went somewhere new? Joseph experienced culture shock when he arrived in Egypt. Joseph had lived as a nomad. He traveled the countryside with his family and caring for the sheep. He was suddenly put into a new world with great pyramids, homes, different people, and new languages. In this new place there was a beauty, but there was also a spiritual blindness with the worship of countless gods. Joseph knew there was only one God. Joseph did not let the new culture change him. He remained faithful to God. If you ever find yourself in a new situation and new culture, be careful to not let it change you. Hold true to God and remain faithful. That is what Joseph did.
