Genesis 4:6-7 New International Version (NIV)
6 Then the Lord said to Cain, “Why are you angry? Why is your face downcast? 7 If you do what is right, will you not be accepted? But if you do not do what is right, sin is crouching at your door; it desires to have you, but you must rule over it.”
What kind of a reaction do you have when someone lets you know you have done something wrong? Do you get defensive? Do you just shrug it off and go on doing what you have been doing? Do you move in a direction to correct the mistake? After the gift Cain had offered to God was rejected, God did give him a chance to right his wrong and try again. God even was encouraging him to do this. God is for us, not against us. He is not looking to get you if you make a mistake. God wants to help you make good decisions. But, Cain refused, and the rest of his life was a mess of showing what happens if a mistake is not admitted and corrected. The next time that someone may let you know that you have made a mistake, or that you are wrong; stop and take an honest look at yourself and the situation. Then choose to work with God to right the wrong.
