Jeremiah 17:7-8 New International Version (NIV)
7 “But blessed is the one who trusts in the Lord,
whose confidence is in him.
8 They will be like a tree planted by the water
that sends out its roots by the stream.
It does not fear when heat comes;
its leaves are always green.
It has no worries in a year of drought
and never fails to bear fruit.”
Self reliance, what does it mean, and is it possible? I have found in my own life when I take the self reliance that God has given to be a good thing. God has given us the abilities to take care of ourselves and our families, to search out for solutions, and to find options to help ourselves in our own problems.
Please hear me, I am not saying that we are not to be dependent on Jesus. What I am saying is God has given us skills and the persistence to get the job done.
When we allow Jesus to be our Lord, we realize our reliance is on him, and him alone. That is when I feel confident in having a can do attitude and trust he will give me the skill to get things done.
I talk with some men who simply lack confidence, and they are working their way out of a jamb. They want to be the leadership in their homes. It is important to to be a man who is self reliant and knows who he is in Christ. There is value in having confidence and allowing yourself the ability to learn and to lead your family.
Men, lead your families, care for them, have regard for them, being the protector of the home.
Men who have self reliance in who they are in Christ and continue to learn who they are as a man are self reliant with the Lord. We need men to stand more than ever. Are you willing to be self reliant with that man you look at in the mirror every morning? It will take a can do attitude, time, and effort. This will allow self reliance to grow within you.
Strength and Courage
